Mommy Fashion No No’s Over 30

April 29th, 2010

Here at Pinky Scout we LOVE fashion- not just for kids but for ourselves. I bought a great dress the other day, put it on this morning and stood in the mirror questioning if I looked “old”. I then I had to remind myself that I am almost 30 years old and I should feel great in this dress I bought in the “woman’s” department. I got to talking with some of the other girls here today about getting older and how to dress as a classy Mom, yet still feel young and hip. When are you too old to shop in the juniors department? What is no longer appropriate to wear when you are a mother? or just over the age of 30? We thought of some funny but serious fashion no no’s for classy sophisticated Moms and women over 30 that we thought we would share! Please share with us any other fashion no no’s you may have, we would love to hear them!!!

When you have hit the age of 30 these things are no longer appropriate……….

1. Belly Shirts- even if you have a rockin body, keep it covered. Belly shirts are for teeny boppers!

2. Showing your thong or whale tale as some call it- that is just hoochie mama! So make sure when you sit down- this doesn’t happen.

3. Wearing glitter body gel or total glittery eyeshadow- there are a few M.A.C. pigments that are a bit sparkly that are acceptable, but this is a NO NO for everyday wear.

4. Shorts that are so short that the pockets hang out of the bottom. Not cool. If you wouldn’t let your teenage daughter out of the house in them- than that means you shouldn’t be wearing the either!

5. Scrunchies. In your hair or around your wrist, enough said.

6. Sweats that say “sexy” , “hot”, or “bootylicious” on the bum. I personally like to wear Victoria Secret PINK sweats so the word “pink” is ok (by me) but having sexy across your bum is SO not sexy.

7. Having your hot pink bra straps showing- or really having your bra straps showing period. Invest in a nice strapless bra, nothing looks tackier than when you wear a cute sundress or halter but have your nasty bra straps showing.

8. Belly Button rings, eyebrow rings, tongue rings. And whats even worse is when people have tongue rings and they play with it clacking it around in their mouth. eeewwwwww…. I see that the “Marilyn” piercing is becoming popular, which is cute if it is not huge. But tongues, belly buttons, and eyebrows went out of style about 10 years ago.

9. School girl plaid skirts. So inappropriate for a mature classy lady. Unless it is Halloween and you are going as Britney Spears.

10. Class rings. If you are still wearing your High School class ring or worse yet your boyfriend’s class ring then you may just have issues.

11. T-Shirts with silly messages or sayings.  For example, even though we all LOVE the “Twlight Series” if you are over 30 you probably should be wearing a Team Edward or Team Jacob Tee out and about.

What are some things that you think are fashion no no’s over the age of 30? PLEASE SHARE!!!

Pinky Scout Employee of the Day!

April 14th, 2010

We thought we would give all of our shoppers and fans the chance to get to know the “Pinky Scouts” a little better starting with Sarah. She is our Pinky Scout of the day! Sarah is the youngest of the Pinky Scout family, she will turn 25 this August which reminds me to start planning her surprise birthday party…shhh. Sarah is a super Pinky Scout, we are so happy to have her here every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and the occasional Saturday.  She always comes into work with a huge smile and is always very productive.   She is great at keeping the store super-organized and the front counters stocked and ready for sales with our Pinky Scout bags and tissue paper. Whenever we have a large item to ship, and have no proper box to ship it in, Sarah always finds a way to make it happen. We call her the box magician. If you come in looking for that perfect baby shower gift- Sarah is our go to girl. Not only will she be your personal shopper but she will gift wrap it cute as can be!

Sarah’s work style is pretty simple, and it suites her. She usually wears some nice jeans, a solid color burnt out tee, cool flip flops and her favorite necklace that was a gift from Stacy for Christmas ( a silver key locket).  Her hair is always sleek and straight and she does not need a drop of makeup to look absolutely fabulous. She is the mother to 4 year old Grace, and loves to dress up little Gracie in everything Pinky Scout! Some of her favorites for Grace are Wati dressespolka dot sandals, and funky personalized clothing. Grace is just like her Mommy in so many ways, she is smart as a whip, loves to sing and dance, play dress up and is an all around cool kid.

A few things about Sarah people may not know is:

- loves to jam out to the rock station, swears she will never be a country music fan.

- makes a great mascot, she has been Sponge Bob and the Easter Bunny here at Pinky Scout.

- can touch her tounge to her nose (you can see this on Facebook actually)

- she is the youngest of 5 kids.

-she is a full time college student, in the medical field.

- loves to rock out on the dance floor, she has got all the moves!

A perfect Sunday off work for Sarah would be~ Sleeping in, catching the 11:30 service at Ginghamsburg, going out to lunch with her sisters, family cook-outs, a bike ride with Gracie, and a great movie to finish off the night.

Sarah, we love having you here and think that you are a great Pinky Scout, sister, and friend! If you don’t know Sarah, stop by on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays to see her cute face!
