Our Motto1

Kids Can Have New Year’s Resolutions Too!

December 29th, 2009

January 1st is right around the corner and we all know what that means, time to start thinking about our New Year’s resolutions! As I was thinking about all the great things I want to accomplish in 2010 I started thinking about my kids. Alot of my New Year’s resolutions include my girls, spending more time with them, becoming more involved in their school and extra activities, and helping them achieve their own 6 and 9 year old goals. A thought came to mind-” why not help them set some New Year’s resolutions of their own?”

Helping your child create New Year’s  Resolutions is the beginning of teaching your child the importance of setting goals. Goal setting is a very important skill your child can take all the way in to adulthood. Here are some resolution ideas to help us all get our kids get started.

1. Keeping my bedroom clean and organized. My daughters sure know how to make some messes in their bedroom! A fun to help motivate them to clean up is to make is somewhat of a game, I like to set a timer and give them each 20 minutes and make it a contest on who can get the most done in the 20 minutes.

2. Practicing better hygiene.Brushing your teeth, washing your hands, keeping a chap stick in your pocket when you have dry lips, taking a shower, blow drying your own hair, the list could go on and on. My 2 girls have been begging to straighten their own hair, I think I may just teach them how this year.

3.Volunteering somewhere, “Giving Back”. I think it is very important to teach your kids to help others in need. Set some goals to volunteer at your church or in your neighborhood or anywhere help is needed this year. I guarantee they will feel great knowing they can help and will be so proud of themselves.  Also, have them gather some old toys or clothes and have them personally take them into your local Goodwill or Salvation Army.

4.Doing their best in school. Doing your homework right away and not waiting until the last minute, studying extra for a test, or reading a book that you thought had too many pages. At our house A’s on a report card = $$$. That should be some motivation for any kid!

5.Setting a goal in sports, or other activities. Making a 3 pointer in basketball, perfecting your cartwheel, performing a song in a piano recital, breaking a record of goals scored in soccer, joining the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts… whatever activity they are into they can set a goal to achieve in the year 2010.

As us “parents” work on our New Year’s resolutions this year, let’s remember how much of an example we set for our children. If they see us achieve our goals, then they will want to achieve theirs too!! Happy New Year everyone :)

Top 5: Holiday Gifts

December 11th, 2009

Top5 Rundown

If you’re like me, there’s a few more names on the Christmas list that you’re waiting to the last minute.  Maybe you’re still looking for that perfect gift – maybe you’re not sure what to give.  From the holiday shopping our fellow Pinky Scouts have already done, here’s a rundown of the Top 5 Holiday Gifts still in stock and ready to wrap and ship before Christmas:

1) UGG Boots

Ugg Cardy in Salsa

Ugg Cardy in Salsa

The Snuggie may be the hot holiday gift for staying warm indoors, but for pampering the feet in the cold Winter weather, nothing compares to UGG.

The must-have UGG this year is the Bailey Button – which is a version of the calf-high Classic boot, adorned with a button.  A tapered top allows you to wear the boot cuffed or full.
For those who prefer a more textured style than the classic sheepskin, the Cardy is the answer.  With a variety of colors – for kids and adults, this Merino wool knit boot is fun and versatile.
Other styles include slippers, baby booties, wedges, buckles, heels – even flip-flops.  Like the Classic UGGs, all styles come with its signature sheepskin lining, comfort-molded insoles, and a light and comfy outsole.  Starting in price at $30 for kids and $80 for adult sizes, there is still plenty to choose from at Pinky Scout.

3) Kid Kits

Kid Kit - Pirate Adventure

Hours of activities for every kind of kid!  The Kid Kit sets combine science and play with a child’s imagination for a hands-on experience that captures their interest.  With the Pirate Adventures set (pictured), your little Matey can create secret spinning treasure maps that lead to their hidden treasures and protect it with their trusty pirate sword.

This Kit includes pirate hat with dredlocks, inflatable pirate sword, see-through eye patch, gold earring, spinning pirate map with dry erase surface & dry erase marker, a working compass, as well as Pirate Adventures book.

Other sets include Princess, T-Rex Excavation & Magnets.  $14.99 – $19.99

4) Bunnies by the Bay

For the baby that has it all, they can never get enough cute & fuzzy – and Bunnies by the Bay certainly delivers.  While BBTB is known for its super-soft blankets, plush toys, booties and blankets, the Buddy Blanket (pictured) gives baby the best of both worlds.  The floppy bunny comes with its own companion blanket – perfect for baby to snuggle up to:  $24.00

5) Personalized Necklaces

Beautiful personalized pendant necklaces by Mine DeVine. Customize yours with a name or an initial. Each necklace is made on a wood tile and sealed with a glossy sealant. A double ribbon necklace tie adds a touch of sweetness and also makes for an adjustable length to fit all ages. All necklaces can be made with or without the dangling beads (although we personally think the beads make it extra special).   $15.oo – $21.00

How To Wear Your Uggs… and How Not To Wear Your Uggs!

November 19th, 2009

Want to look fabulous head to toe? Ahem, we prefer “toe to head.” Because when you’re wearing any of our Authentic UGG Boots, your feet will be the first thing everyone notices.  Here in Ohio UGG boot season is in full force. These puppies are flying off our shelves and if you don’t have a pair you are missing out big time! We thought we would share with you some useful tips on how to and how NOT to wear your UGG boots this season.

  1. Tuck your jeans into your boots. A very cute “wintery” outfit is to wear jeans tucked into UGGS with a light or dark colored shirt (or sweater), along with a woolen jacket, scarf, or hat.  If you do not own a pair of skinny jeans you need to get some asap. Skinny jeans are best when tucking your jeans into your boots. Stay away from wide leg or bootcut jeans when trying to tuck them in- if it looks like you have peg  rolled your jeans like we used to do in 80’s and they are bulging out then stop trying to make it work.   If you decide you do want to wear a pair of wide leg jeans with your boots, roll the jean up a little bit and put it over the boot. It’s very cute.

2. Wear them with leggings. All of the girls at Pinky Scout love to wear leggings. They are so comfy and look great with a pair of Classic Ugg  Boots or the Cardy Crochet Boots.  With your leggings, try a sweater dress or a tunic top and throw on a shrug or scarf to complete the look.  Some of the best leggings I have  found are the Vera Wang leggings at Kohls. They are a great price and really suck you in which is always a plus.

3.Wear UGG boots with skirts too! UGGS look great with almost any skirt that is above the knee and in some cases, below the knee, but above the ankle. It really depends on what color UGG boots you have. Obviously, you should not wear a lime green skirt with purple UGGS.  A few of our favorite styles of UGG boots to wear with skirts come from the fashion collection of boots. The Highkoo and the Smithfield are two great styles that would look very classy with a nice skirt. If you are trying to be dressy you will want to stay away from your favorite classic boots are go with a fashion boot.

A few tips now on how NOT to wear your UGG Boots

1. Never wear UGGS bare legged or with nude pantyhose. If it’s not obvious already, learn this: UGGS are for cold weather. They are designed to keep you cozy when it’s chilly outside. That’s why it makes no sense to pair them with mini skirts, shorts, tiny dresses, or Capri pants. If it’s warm enough outside to run around barelegged, don’t wear UGGS. Wear flats, sandals, or sneakers instead. In other words, wear warm-weather shoes.  If you are addicted to UGGS (like myself) buy some UGG Flip Flops for summer time!

2.Never wear UGGS with PJ pants. Not only does it look incredibly slouchy it also looks incredibly bad. UGGS do not match PJ pants.  Sadly, people here in the mid-west think it is okay to wear thier pajama pants out in public. PJ pants are for the comfort of your own home and wearing your UGGS with your PJ’s to the mall is a no-no. If you must leave your house in the middle of the night for an emergency we will excuse you for throwing on your UGGS and PJ pants, but it better be a darn good emergency!

3. Never wear UGGS with dressy outfits or suits. Dress slacks, formal dresses, business suits & pencil skirts do not mesh with UGG boots. As you can see in the picture below- a man in a business suit and UGG boots is not attractive. We all know how comfy your boots are, but there are certain events that you must deal with the pain of your stellitos for a few hours to look classy and appropiate.  Just keep in the back of your mind that you will be home soon enough and your warm boots will be there to greet your feet!

Last but not least, for all you Grandmas & Great Grandmas out there- you are never too old to own a pair of UGG boots.  Some think they are all about the fashion BUT they are not. Everyone deserves to have warm toes this winter! Hurry into Pinky Scout and try some on today!
